Is it bad that i'm thinking about removing my thyroid?

I'm 23 years old, and I've had a thyroid problem since I was 13. and my dad wants me to keep my thyroid so the doctors can do more tests on it in a year. but I have 2 lumps on it. the first 1 is clearly visible and the 2nd one is a bit farther. and me, my bf, grandma, and doctor want to have surgery to take it out.. I'm just nervous because I know once I get it removed I will have to take thyroid meds for the rest of my life. is it safe for someone my age to have their thyroid removed?

If the thyroid imbalances are causing you serious distress, you would do much better to have it removed and go on the Synthroid. Two members of my family had it done and it was amazing what it did to their overall outlook on life and their health. But only you can decide when enough is enough. If you can't decide, see another doctor for a second opinion.

It is safe, but if there is no serious problems, I would consider keeping it in, at least for a little longer. Once its out, it is out forever, and you will need meds, forever, if you're 23, that's a long time. Thats just my 10¢ though, its entirely up to you
