If I buy an item that is \$21.00 and I have a coupon for 20% off. What is the price I will pay for the item?

if you could show me how to do the work it would be nice :) but the answer works also.

To do this you need to multiply 20% to 21.00, because you need to find 20% of 21. Of is another way of saying multiplication. To multiply you need to change 21% into a decimal so you move the decimal place over two places to the left. Now you can multiply using the equation Percent(as a decimal)* the selling price .20*21= 4.2 or \$4.20 . Now you know 20% of \$21.00. The next step is to subtract that amount from the sale price because it is a discount. so \$21.00-4.20=16.8 or \$16.80. So you would pay \$16.80

You will pay \$16.8 for the item. A coupon is like a discount or a promotional code that is often given to consumers or buyers. You will first get the 20 percent of the item, which is 4.2 and then subtract that 4.2 from the 21 to get 16.8. The \$4.2 acts like your discount for the product.
