Everyone has 23 pairs of chromosomes that contain all the genetic information to make a human being. Half of the 46 genes come from the egg (female) and half from the sperm (male). The egg always carries an X chromosome, the sperm has either an X or a Y chromosome. If the egg ends up with an XX pair, the baby will be a girl, if the egg gets an XY pair, the baby will be a boy.
Yes, the chromosomes x and y make the sex of the baby. The man carries 1 x chromosome and 1 y chromosome, while the woman carries 2 x chromosome. In turn, the man is the one who decides the sex of the baby.
