Why are radio waves used for the navigation of ships and aircraft,

Radio waves are used because; the radio waves can bounce off any object in their transmission path, radio waves have minimal of interference effects, radar video on aircraft can be subjected to a plot extraction process whereby unwanted and interfering signals are rejected. The advanced technology has made communication become easy today.

Because nothing else known at this time can travel as far or "bend" around the earth like radio waves.
