What do you do to get over losing a pet?

Report as

Loosing a pet is always difficult, because you had chosen to spend a great deal of time and love, and energy having them. It is sometimes like losing a part of the family. You should allow yourself to mourn the loss of your pet, before trying to move on. Some things to help ease some of the pain, read your favorite book, watch your favorite movie, get outside and and exercise. Visit with friends and family they will be a great deal of help. Get some plants, the green colors will lift your mood, light a lightly fragrant candle. I hope this helps. Then when you are ready think about adopting a new pet. So many need good homes, they may need you as much as you need them, my best wishes go out to you. : )

Spend time with your family. I almost lost my dog last week and being with my family made me feel much better because I know that they care as much as I do about him.

Many larger animal hospitals can direct you to a pet loss group for all ages. You get together, talk about your loss and people share ideas about what has been helping them. I worked at an animal hospital for years and the one thing I always told people who recently lost a pet is that your pet loved you and wanted nothing more then to make you happy. And if they knew the pain their loss was causing it would hurt them dearly. They would want you to celebrate the time you spent together and cherish all the special moment, not be overwhelmed with grief.

I lost my dog when I was in fourth grade and now I'm in 7th grade. Anyway there are several things you can do....I am going to list just a few.
1.)Get another pet
2.)Have friends help u through it
3.)think of the happy moments you had with it.
4.)Throw away all pet toys
5.)Get a stuffed animal that looks like it.

Aw, I'm so sorry! I just got my first dog about a year ago, and I can't imagine life without him. I would say the best thing you can do is be with family and friends and maybe get another pet. I'm not sure if you had a dog, but I love this picture. It's a dog's will. And I love it so much. You might want a tissue nearby. http://www.google.com/imgres?q=a+dog%27s+will&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=800&bih=509&tbm=isch&tbnid=XT423iBQkVXb5M:&imgrefurl=http://lawprofessors.typepad.com/trusts_estates_prof/2012/01/a-dogs-will.html&docid=bjcTt3TO65Xj2M&imgurl=http://lawprofessors.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8341bfae553ef0163004bd3a2970d-400wi&w=400&h=300&ei=0ZGDT47ZH7Gs0AHq-eXgBw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=119&vpy=154&dur=1149&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=173&ty=137&sig=117958089407781535000&page=1&tbnh=143&tbnw=217&start=0&ndsp=6&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0,i:69

I've lost many pets, most of them 4H rabbits. I normally get over the loss of a pet by writing about them in a journal. Once I even wrote a letter to a lost pet and laid it with him in his little box with a picture of him before he was buried. It made me feel better. Some times (please don't think I'm crazy) I sit by where he's buried and talk to him.

It would be best to talk about your feelings to someone and just remember the good things about your pet

Getting over a death is no easy thing, whether it's a human being or a pet, the process is the same. Having a funeral for your pet marks a formal end to his life and helps you say goodbye. Bury your pet with his favorite blanket or toy, in a nice spot and mark the grave so you can visit it if you want to. Share your memories with family members or others who are grieving. Little things that happen throughout the day will make you remember your pet, but as the weeks go by the pain will diminish and you will be able to have fond thoughts about your lost pet without tears. Everyone moves through the grieving process at their own rate, don't be pushed into getting another pet too soon. Comparing a new pet to one you just lost can interfere with the bonding process. You will know when the time is right. I am so sorry for your loss.
