How many words does an average person know ?

Report as

However many words we know I've learned a lot more since I started visiting Ask.

ABSQUATULATE: To leave in a hurry. Or, as we used to say in Oz, "To shoot through like a Bondi tram."
ANGSTING: Running around in circles as you bash your head against the wall. (I know, I know, it's hard to do both at the same time and that perpetuates the angst.)
BELIEBER: 21st century teeny-bopper.
BLOVIATE: Talk at length, esp. in an inflated or empty way. (as I'm doing here).
MODERATOR: An Ask administrator whom angsting answerers angrily accuse when their acrimonious assertions are axed.
OBJURGATE: To scold.
SESQUIPEDALIAN: (noun) Somebody who uses words like sesquipedalian.

Then we have a few collective nouns, like a blur of Sasquatch or a warm presence of Virginias.

Then there's EricM's confession, that I'm still trying to work out. He said, "I'm a pain in the Ask."

No, I didn't. But according to one local crossword-setter, TITTER is more feminine than BELLY LAUGH.

We must do a question about interesting words.

That's without the person having gone to college

That would depend on how much education the person would have.
