Make sure she has a gauged needle. The chunk of flesh being removed to make way for the bar of your shiny, new, belly-button ring needs to be taken out with a hollow needle. Otherwise you'll regret it forever because you'll have a big lump-scar that heels funny and most rings wont fit... My cousin pierced her own lip with a hollow needle and it looked professional. But, the needles are huge.. I had mine done at a tattoo parlor and I closed my eyes until it was all over, because I knew if I saw the needle I'd wimp out. (dont judge me! hahaha)
PS> you need a sterile environment also. Boil the needle to get rid of germs and buy H2Ocean from a local tattoo/piercing parlor for at-home care and cleaning so you avoid infection. And, when the piercing is in, remember to twist it every so often, so the healing skin doesn't end up growing over the bar and embedding it into your skin!
You deserve any infection you get if you're stupid enuff to let an unskilled friend not only pierce your belly button, but to believe her when she says "I won't hurt you"! This should only be done by a PROFESSIONAL in a sterile environment with specialized equipment!
