I lost my job then my home now living with my son. Yes I had to file a bankruptcy. You'll get a court date soon. You and your attorney will have to go before not a judge sorry forgot what they're called. He'll ask a few questions. Shouldn't take no longer then 10 minutes. Waiting is longer then being questioned. You leave and about two months later you'll receive a letter saying your bills been discharged. Do not loose that letter make copies. Sometimes they'll ask you to pay something towards your bills. Most time it's discharged. Good luck.
What happens after filing for bankruptcy depends on whether you filed Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy. You should speak to a local bankruptcy attorney to get the specific facts about your situation.
You need to speak to a lawyer that specializes in bankruptcy if the people you filed with gave you no instruction as to the next step. Sorry that this has happened, it's not easy these days. Ignore all the rude answers too, some people have zero compassion & understanding.
I am in the middle of one myself. If you just filed, then you will be given a court date (mine was 5 weeks later), and your creditors have 90 days to do something, then it will be over. That's my understanding anyway. My court date was last week.
