If its a habit that you have been told will grow hair on your hands, don't worry. Its better than doing your thing with the neighborhood girls & getting one pregnant. If you smoke or drink, you can quit either one easily cos your habit isn't long-standing. Porn? YOU sit down and block those sites from your computer. Whatever your issue is, you have the desire to quit-good for you. Are you really so sure that what you're doing is a sin?
Anytime the urge arises, whatever it may be, you need to delve into the Bible and read, read, read. You will find strength to overcome when you are in His Word. Pray to Him. Ask Him for wisdom and strength. Best wishes! :)
I don't need to know what your habit is. I don't care what it is, either. Think about this: if you are being convicted in your spirit that what you are doing is wrong, this is a clear sign that it's time to stop it. If you are strong enough to admit this is not a good thing, then you are halfway to resolving the problem. Now you must act. And, you are ready to do it. Stop the habit, and replace it with a random act of anonymous kindness, every time you feel you want to do whatever the bad habit is...and keep us posted. Yay you! It's deliverance day!
My advice to you is to confide in an actual person, not some strangers on the Internet. Why not try your religious leader? If he or she as been in a leadership position for a few years then I doubt your habit will be a shock to them.
The only way to break an old habit is to start a good one. God is you're strength, look up verses and study on what he says about you're habit. (look up in concordance, good one for word search that is free on line is Blue Letter Bible.)
Confess you're sin to you're self and someone else, accountability is hard but the best. Name it, call it what it is. Define clearly what it is, what it is you need to stop, and what the "put-on" is, (the opposite of the bad habit, the bad habit is the "put-off".)
Then put you're foot on it, act! Proclaim to you're self and hopefully someone else "I'm done with this, God is my strength and Him and me are gonna lick this!"
THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART. You must hate it, you must hate you're bad habit. because no matter what you do and how hard you try, if you still love you're bad habit, you will never get rid of it. That is very hard, but it is the truth. This s what I have done and it is such a blessing from God my pastor taught me how to do this. :) ~Eva~
The Lord knows we are weak, all have sins and bad habits that harm our bodies.Never give up on trying to improve your life in all area's.Such as we all need to do ,just pray and let the Lord do the work.If you need help he will show you where to go:)
Heb 12:1 WHEREFORE seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Eph 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
You need all the armer of God or the devil will kill you spiritually.
To cut a sinful habit, there are five things you must do.
Pray - pray that God will not allow you to do this habit anymore. Prayer is a powerful tool, and our opportunity to talk with God. He hears all, and knows what you want before you pray it. Spending time with God in prayer will bring you closer to Him and farther from your habit. Go to Mass - It is where we meet with God. Mass is one of the best prayers you can offer to God. Ask Jesus to help you, ask Him to pour His grace into your soul. In the Church, we are united to the Lord. Meet with a spiritual director - it may be a priest, a friend, anyone who you feel comfortable sharing your habit with. Ask your spiritual director to help you and pray for you. Feel free to ask him for any advice. Go to Confession - it is through the Sacrament of Reconciliation we are cleansed of our sins. Confess your habit to the priest, and ask him for advice as well. Busy yourself - whenever you feel you want to do your habit, busy yourself. Play a game, talk with friends, go for a walk. Make sure you do not fall into your habit again.
I will pray for you, and I hope you break your habit.
