Why is it that everytime I hit a small bump my stereo stops playing my cds?

Is it that my truck is old its a 97' or just wiring issues? And how can I check to see if it is a harness?

There is a cable that plugs into the back of the stereo and it has probably worked lose over time. Or been taken out for repairs or replacement and not plugged in and tightened down properly. They have to be pushed back in and screwed back in tight. It's an easy inexpensive thing to fix.
I have a '98 Chevy and mine did the same thing.

Sounds like maybe the bump might cause the CD to get slightly dislodged. Do you have any trouble removing the CD after?

It definitely has to do with the age of the stereo. The quality of CD players are not nearly as good as they are today.
Even the smallest jolt to your older stereo can throw the laser off temporarily.
Invest in a new stereo, they're relatively cheap for the quality you get.

No anti skip technology. you hit a bump, it shakes the cd, the laser can't read it well so it shuts up
