Hi neemo53, depends on context. Limbo is a figurative state of waiting/inertia/nothingness which comes from a belief in the "Limbus" which was said to be a place on the fringe of Hell where a soul would wait for an indeterminate amount of time before being condemned to purgatory or hell. Or.... The Limbo is a dance where people bend backwards under a bar that is slowly lowered over and over until no one can go under it :)
Its a dance/game and its tricky business. You have to lean backwards and walk under a pole, if you hit the pole, yoooouuure out! And the train of people continues passing through, and the poll goes lower each round till one person is victorious.
You can interpret limbo as a cosmic waiting room for yourself after your dead, or just a waiting room were youre not sure what will happen and do not know. And it is also a dance/game were you see who can bend lowest beneath a limbo bar set out to se who can.
