Go to the drugstore and ask the pharmacist for oil of cloves--also known as eugenol. Also buy some cotton balls. Take a little wad of cotton and put a few drops of the oil on the cotton and put it on the sore tooth. (There's a reason a dentist's office often smells of oil of cloves: not only is it a powerful pain-killer, it's a powerful germ-killer!) It will stop the tooth from hurting.
Less severe toothaches can be resolved with over the counter medication like acetaminophen and ibuprofen. Ibuprofen has an added benefit in that it can reduce the swelling. You can also place a clove of garlic with a little rock salt on the affected tooth. See www.home-remedies-for-you.com/remedy/Toothache.html for more on the same.
Buy some stuff called dent-temp its like a plaster filling, it hardens after about a hour and it will stay on your tooth for Weeks until you can get to a dentist. It will cover any air getting too the tooth which its why it probably is hurting.
