Hi Marcia Tessier, depends on how bad it is and how long it has been since he has gone. You can try giving him canned pumpkin,if it has only been a day or so, but if that doesn't work you need to get him to a vet. This *can* kill them if they can't get the blockage cleared.
My dog had the same problems because I gave bones to chew on. Over time like 4 months or so that caused this. That was so sad because the little dog has no idea what was going on. Kept wanting to go out side when nothing happened her came back in and looked so sad and just layed on the couch. Her would not eat. Took her to the vet. The vet cured her. Now ever since her is fine. That was many months ago.
Make your dog a mixture of cottage cheese and boiled white rice. If he is not better by the morning, call the vet. Both of my dogs have had stomach aches so bad they would even get up or move. I gave them this and within minutes they were begging to go outside.
I took him to the vet and he has cancer on his intestines and can't poop and has a blatter infection i dont wasnt him to die i need help and the vet said they can't help if any ideas please txt me at 230-0779 thx
Isn't it interesting that not one single Vet sees and answers this question. Problem is they are not in it for helping pets but the money instead. If they'd answer questions online then they'd lose money. Anyway, try using pumpkin and boiled vegetables. If that doesn't work there is a medication the Vet can give called Lactulose Syrup. They can do an X-Ray to see if the colon is too full. An enema done by the Vet can also do the trick. There could also be an underlying problem causing this which needs to be addressed. Good luck
I have a six year old mixed, and have the same problem, took him to the vet walking and after a weekend when I went to get him, the vet told me it was better to put him to sleep, I refused because it was bad enough have to leave him there with all the worry I had, he wasn't expecting this answer and returned my dog back that can't even get up, very disappointing and depressing, now I take care of him, give him more love, and do all I can do until what ever has to happen, have tried spoons of olive oil, antibiotic, rubbing his belly, the vet said he gave him suppository but couldn't get anything out and that with a surgery he couldn't assure the dog would make it alive and still charge me about 500 . Not to mention he charged me 240 for the weekend he said was trying to solve the situation. It's like Mike Stewart above said: They are not in for helping pets but the money instead, All the vet would insist was putting the dog to sleep and even have all the numbers set for the cost of putting him to sleep and keeping the body, in the file before asking me. Good luck with yours, hope everything turns out good for both of you.
