Why are there 24 hours in a day? Why not 36?

Because it only takes 24 hours for the earth to rotate on it axis...not 36

Because a day is based on how much time it takes the Earth to complete one rotation. That would be about 24 hours.

Some day it will be 36. That's a great question by the way.The day use to be a lot less than 24 hours when the moon was closer.The moon gets an inch further from us every year.In the not so near future its going to slow the Earths rotation down more and you just might have your 36 hour day.

Because they made the amount of time it takes for the earth to rotate a multiple of 12 because they like 12 like we do 10.
