Why are there 24 hours in a day? Why not 36?

Report as

Because it only takes 24 hours for the earth to rotate on it axis...not 36

so? there could be 30 minuites in a hour so there could be 48 hours! I guess it could depend on how you think of it.

because people hate sleep and like to rush through the day.

Report as

Because a day is based on how much time it takes the Earth to complete one rotation. That would be about 24 hours.

Report as
Why can't there be 48 hours in a day?
Report as

Because 24 hours is how long it takes for the earth to spin around its axis.

Because it's like that

Some day it will be 36. That's a great question by the way.The day use to be a lot less than 24 hours when the moon was closer. The moon gets an inch further from us every year.In the not so near future its going to slow the Earths rotation down more and you just might have your 36 hour day.

Because they made the amount of time it takes for the earth to rotate a multiple of 12 because they like 12 like we do 10.
