Well, honestly I can't really think of anything on this one, I think if I were younger I'd want to have a /little/ bit of freedom over what I'd want to do. I mean, we were all kids once, and we all had to start thinking for ourselves eventually.
What age children? Obviously parents need to make all decisions for very young children because adults are more mature and have more experience and young children are mentally incapable of making mature, informed decisions. As children grow older they should be given a larger part in decisions directly effecting them, though some things must still be only for parents to decide for the same reasons as above. As a child becomes a teenager, based on their maturity levels, more responsibility for decisions can be given them. Once they reach adulthood they should be left alone to make their own decisions if they wish to do so without parental interferance. I say this because i know there are certain cultures where parents feel they should make decisions for their children well into adulthood and that isnt good.
Because parents have life experience that children don't have. As a youngster matures parents let them make more discussion. Best lesson my parents ever taught me was to let me make my own decision even though they knew it was the wrong choice. I still ask my parents for advise and I'm 40

1. If you get pregnant, parents have to pay for it. 2. If you get into a car accident, parents have to pay for it. 3. If you go to jail for breaking the law, parents have to pay for it. 4. If you go to college, parents have to pay for it. 5. If you have to go to the hospital, parents have to pay for it. 6. If you need clothes and school supplies, parents have to pay for it. 7. If you want a home to live in, parents have to pay for it. 8. If you get on drugs and need rehab, parents have to pay for it. 9. Because parents love you and want what is best for you and have more experience to guide you in the right and safe way.
There are so many reasons, one reason cannot begin to cover it. Mother of six talking here! : D
The parents "should" know what's best for their child.(some parents are not the best ones to make decisions for children that is why the end up in CPS) It also comes down to a right as a american citizen, if the government or anyone else held this power it would take away the power of the individual.
