I bought a car from someone can I tag it without insurance I live in California

Report as

no insurance, no registration. and don't drive around in monterey county if your registration has been expired for awhile 'cuz they will impound the car on the spot, hold it for 30 day minimum at $100 aday plus a basic impound fee. so it'll be over 3 grand to get it back. and if you say just keep the damn car, you still have to pay it because they do a judgement against you until it's paid and they won't let ya register any other car in your name until it
is paid. i heard this on a lawyer radio talk show. be careful in calif.

No. The DMV will not issue a license for the car without proof of insurance. If you get insurance and cancel it, the company must notify DMV who will demand the return of the registration until you get insurance. Too many problems with uninsured motorists in this state...

I don't think that's all true. I have bought cars before had my insurance lapsed and still went down to the DMV and paid registration. More than likely the car is on file as being insured and if you went down to pay the reg they would hook you up. There is always a loop hole
