The Friday the 13th superstition has a number of theories, but the most common one goes back to the misfortunes of the Knights Templar. The Knights Templar was a monastic military order charged with protecting Christians making pilgrimages to the holy land. They were very powerful and wealthy. The king of France circulated rumors on false charges of heresy, and the order was attacked on Friday, October 13, 1307.
