My middle and ring fingers have been numb for about a month now. Any ideas on what would cause this?

Nobody here can possibly tell you. I would bet a doctor could though.

Pay attention to what you were doing at the time you noticed it and if the thumb was involved. Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by compression of the median nerve in extreme positions. You may benefit from a splint to keep your wrist in neutral positions. If it continues ask your md

Numbness in your hands usually can mean some type of nerve entrapment or a pinched nerve maybe in your neck. Or in some cases carpal tunnel

Your Ulnar Nerve controls the pinky, the ring finger, half of the middle finger closest to the ring finger run the paper clip after straightening it down your pinky, ring finger and half of the middle finger. the pinky and ring finger should feel dull basically the same then the middle finger do one side then the other half the one closest to the ring finger should fell like the pinky and ring finger. the other side you should have normal feeling. (Palms up) when you do this. Injury or swelling of the surrounding tissue or nerve can cause this. When you go to the Dr he can use electrodes to tell you what exactly is causing this and if physical therapy will help or the brace. May be able to determine how long but nerves rejuvenate slowly

@ Toni, Thanks for the info. I was carrying a heavy shopping bag about 4 days ago and when I got home, my right middle finger on the side of my ring finger was numb and still is. The other half of the finger is fine. The numbness is only on the top 1/3rd of the middle finger. I also have Carpal Tunnel but this just started from carrying that package. All my other fingers are fine. I read that I should keep the finger in a brace to let the nerve heal until I can get in to see a doc, which will be at least two weeks to a month, till they can see me. What do you think? And are you a doc or a nurse?
