How do you tell whats an expense and what's a supply in a small business

In small businesses an expenses is attained by the costs, which are directly related to the function of the business. Supplies are the tangible items and they help in running the business.

so say if u need a part for a work truck or u buy a tool for the shop or u have to buy a city sticker for a work truck those are all supplies so there for its an expense is that what u mean so any thing u buy for the business is a supplie and at the end of year it becomes an expense

Expenses are the cost of the item purchased. The item purchased is supply.
