Absolutely go with the diesel. In addition to longevity of the engine, the increased fuel mileage will make it well worth the investment. We have 6 diesel vehicles; 5 pickups and 1 Jeep. One of our trucks has almost 300,000 miles on it with no major work whatsoever. My 3/4 ton pickup gets 24.5 mpg; my Jeep gets 32 mpg. Try getting anywhere near that with a similar gas-powered vehicle. Even though diesel is a bit more expensive at the pump, the increased mpg more than makes up for it.
