A Venus fly traps niche is a group of carnivorous plants that catch and digest animal prey mostly insects and arachnids. Flytraps essentially get a good deal of their nourishment like other plants do, via the process of photosynthesis. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus_Flytrap for more information.

Venus fly traps tend to live in marshy nitrogen-poor areas. Since the plant doesn't get enough nitrogen from the soil it supplements it by ingesting insects. Other carnivorous plants include the honeydew and the pitcher plant.
