Children with autism flap their hands and even say certain words repetitively because the condition keeps their minds active and occupied. Autistic children also do not like to be distracted from the activity they are doing. For more information you can check this link out http://kidshealth.org/kid/health_problems/brain/autism.html.

Children with Autism rarely express emotions. When something pleases or delights them, this may be a way to express that emotion.

In Autism, all emotions are exaggerated....which is why they are loud and tend to become violent when upset. The magnitude of emotion felt by them is much more than what is felt by a regular individual.....Hence when they are really happy, they express their emotion by flapping or clapping their hands....
