Any number of things, more information is needed to answer this question, for example what happened when it stopped, were there any noises, what happens now when you try to start it, does it make noise? How old is the car, what kind of car...
i agree with sherry a but it just could be outta gas, maybe your gas hand is sticking, i had a vehicle that did that, you could take it to a car part store and have them to hook it up to their computer thing and it will tell them whats wrong, i've done that also and had it done for free. i'm no car expert by any means but sherry has the best answer. your alternator could have went bad also, i've had that to happen to me to 3 times with a chevy s 10 pickup yrs ago.

That happen to me once! My problem was loose battery cables! I guess while I was driving I hit a bump and knocked them loose and my car died and I couldn't get it to start until we figured out what it was and tightened to cables. Never happened again after that!! Hope that helps!!
