Why is the "hunger games" so popular. I found it disturbing

I found it so disturbing. Its teaching that self is the most important, and that there is nothing worse than death. To me, honor and respect, are way more important that death. Its sad that our culture embrasses such horror. Think of syria, Darfur, and other holocausts going on right now, that nobody seems to give a crap about. Its really sad.

I think your answer is bad your totally over thinking this matter it's a book there are much worse books than the hunger games just because it's popular doesn't mean you have to hate on it

Ugh bull my mother watched it and she liked it and trust me there isn't anything wrong with her but really the amount of disgusting horror and gory stories isn't as bad as the hunger games

ppl read them cuz its in...just like twilight everyone will start reading the books. people who read the books like 3 years ago or more are true hunger game fans. people who saw the movie, thought it sucked, and read the books before the movie is a true hunger games fan. i personaly think its stupid

I did I was at the theater 5 hours early and sat there and ok I know about opinions I respect that but when you come on here and say stupid crap like calling me a hun or a dear who do you think you r my mother god help this world and these nutty people!!!!! If you have a problem why are you going back and forth with a 13 year old shows how much of an immature child you are if your a mother shouldn't you be worrying about your children and not playing on ask cause really all your doing is waiting for my response to do what reprimand me over the Internet!!!! I never said nutty people. I was stating my opinion to a question asked. It seems like you are the one who can't let it go. And, by the way, it seems that others agree with me. I don't see how it taught that their was nothing worse than death..I mean Katniss and Peeta almost kill themselves just so they can retain their individuality and not be forced to kill one another. But I may not be looking at it from the same angle as you :)

I was referring to the scenes where they were first released and the kids were running to the pit and where the most bloodshed was happening. Of course in a situation like that, it would be kill or be killed, but, still disturbing to me. Of course, I still have vivid memories of watching visions of the holocaust, so you can imagine the ptsd of having to watch children killing children for me.
