Hi taytayswift.. how about something a little outside the norm... The Effects of Increased CO2 Absorption in the Oceans. This will get you started, there is lots of info on this online http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_acidification

Talk about why we can't go on the beach in ca because of a little freaking bird!!

A good topic about environment issue would be renewable energy sources. You can talk about the history and current status on wind generation energy and solar energy. Whether there is future for geothermal energy, effects of coal burning power plants on the environment and biomass energy.
