It is not the same thing but, it is advisable to just advise them. This is because they will think you are trying to change them, if you force them to do something else. The best thing would be to tell them to try out something as you support them in what they like doing.

No cuz discovering ones potential is figuring out who u r. Changing would be trying to change them into someone who they aren't. It depends on the person in the end wether u need to help them or not.
