Because it is the best way to keep racism alive. Segregation is alive & well. The worst part is that it'll never change, until folks look at the real problems, but no politicians or leaders want it to change. Blacks are taught that whites hate them & want them to be slaves. Whites are taught that blacks are lazy & only get their jobs because of quotas. Everybody points fingers & blames everyone else for the countries problems, racism, illegals & nothing is done

??? I'm sorry but Whites did not have the same hardships as black people... Black people celebrate they're victory of over coming racism+ WORSE! ( And i'm not saying that whites had it easy, they had it hard to) But I'm referring to slavery.

At the time that Black History Month was implemented, the only thing that anyone learned about in schools was "white" history. Having "Black History" month was a way of drawing attention to the fact that there important accomplishments that occurred in our Nation's history due to African Americans as well. Currently many history books do include both (and other race's/culture's) accomplishments as well. However depending on exactly where you live, and how recently one's text books were updated, there are still some that aren't as inclusive.
Hopefully one day all textbooks will include a balanced view of our history, and we won't have to set aside a specific time to honor one particular race/culture over another.
our historys too broad, theres lotsa races of white people. theirs is pretty simple, they got kidnapped from africa [a lot of them were tribal prisoners of war who got sold by other africans, true story], came to america, worked on farms, they got their freedom after the civil war [but many stayed with their masters, willingly and unwillingly, for decades afterwards, again true story] then they were discriminated against till they got a law passed that made them equal to everyone else, then they started singin and playing basketball, and if their not good enough to do stuff like that they lived in ghettos. there ive summed up the entire black history. I get the feeling someones gonna yell at me though.
Good question. There should be. Yes blacks had it hard with slavery but there is a Asian month and Hispanic month. And other moths but none for whites? I actually think that's racist to us whites. Not every other month is for whites because when are we appreciated. No offense, my best friend (basically my sister) is black but the whole black moth is annoying! -Beth:D (not racist)
What I think was purely dumb was that blacks sold blacks to whites and blacks hate whites because whites owned blacks, years and years ago I might add. Also, some blacks look at whites today like whites are scum and say "you people enslaved my people" and it's ridiculous, especially when some ignorant kids think it's okay to say the "N" word and get away with it, white black mexican asian whatever color it's wrong and you have to realize that.
In 1926, Carter G Woodson a historian , chose a week in February to be "Black history week". That week was chosen b/c it marked the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Fredrick Douglas. Over the years it became "african american history month/ black history month. You can create your own "white history month" there are about 8/9 to choose from :-)
Never in my life thought about that and don't really care why, that's just the way it is. Maybe it wouldn't even be one if white people didn't treat BLACKS like crap! go protest like everyone else does when they think things aren't fair and see what happens!
