A felon refers to an individual who has been convicted of a crime. A felony refers to the crime drafted on the penal code and is usually punishable by imprisonment.

Only convicted of felony...someone who committed a misdemeanor is not a felon.

Someone who was convicted of a felony crime, usually have served some jail time for this crime. Like selling drugs and getting caught for the third time.
