think of every bad thing smoking causes and every time you feel the urge to go smoke a cigarette.
1 cancer
2 horrible breath
3 yellow teeth
4 coating your lungs with filthy brown gunk
5 what a caring friend or family member would think if you died because you were too stubborn to quit
6 choking on your breath very loudly all the time when you get old
7 how much young children will look up to you and think, hey my grandma does it so it does not matter if i do
8 when people smoke, they stink
9 i dont want anyone to smoke
10 you will eventually die because of it if you dont stop and think to yourself how much ten more years would mean to you if you were in a hospital bed dying.

Pick a quit day and list down why you want to quit smoking, on your quit day don't smoke completely, ask friends or family members to help you quit, ask your doctor about a prescription medicine called bupropion, when you feel like smoking, go out for a walk, consider exercising more, and If you slip, don't give up. Try quitting again.

I have heard that if you drink ice water through a straw or suck on cinnamon sticks, or some honey through a straw it it makes that feeling to suck on something go away

Breathe. Try taking deep breaths, holding it as if you were inhaling the cigarette, and then exhale as you would the smoke. repeat as often as you would for ten to fifteen minutes the same time period you would take to smoke a cigarette breathe instead!! Eat spicy foods, during the time you are trying to quit. As, also patches wear them as long as you need to wear them. it maybe months so don't panic if your not on the same schedule, as other people's testimonies. Cinnamon gum, candies, red hots are a good one! and drink lots of water, but mostly ask God and He will lead you through. If you belong to Him, you have the promise of the benefit: It is His will for you to quit as it's harming you, so if you ask Him, He will help you, to completion!! And, if He wills for you to quit, as it is His will, then.. He will provide for you the resources, if you put in your end of the deal with the effort!! He might even, heal you of it instantly or within a few days, sometimes.. it takes longer. don't give up.. the results are benefiting!!!

Believe or not, I have the answer to this, and it doesn't cost a penny! I smoked for about 17 years, until my wife and I found out we were going to start a family. Now I LOVED smoking. First thing in the morning, after a good meal, or any meal, idle time was occupied by the act of smoking a cigarette. I could afford it (money wise, perhaps not health) and it was not socially shun the way it is today. So all this to say, I was pretty much if not more of a fan of smoking that most, you included.

Now, I smoked 25 cigarettes a day, so, 25 weeks before the birth of my first son, I created this plan...

Every week, remove one cigarette from your pack. That's it, just one cigarette. So week 1, I continued smoking about 25 per day. Week 2, went down to 24. Week 3, was at 23 and so on. Removing 1 cigarette per week is nothing; you could probably do it right now. When I got to the last week, I would light up in the morning and then put it out. Then I would light it up again after lunch and put it out. Then before I'd go to bed, I'd have my last "puff". Kind of silly in hindsight. But this is what happened. Nicotine is out of your system in the first few days after quitting. What remains and controls our left over addiction is the psychological dependency and the habits you have developed. By quitting over a 25 week period, I SLOWLY eliminated all those habits I had when I smoked. No smokes in the car, no smokes on the phone, no smokes after, well, you know.

The first day without my "preeeeeeecious" was a little bit tough only because I had feared "that day" for so long, no more cigarettes...ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! But I kept myself busy and because I had slowly eliminated my intake and habits, it really wasn't much different than the day prior.

Trust me here, I have an addictive personality, heck I'm addicted to addiction. But I can tell you in all honesty that this works. And I now feel ridiculous that I spend so long doing something that I really never needed, froze my buns off smoking outside in the winter, stinking up whatever environment I was in when I smoked, as well as myself and others. And of course I won't even go into my health and prognosis for the future suffice it to say, I'll probably live a decade or two longer, which at 43 years old is looking pretty good!

So good luck, you can EASILY do this. Let me know how it goes, I'll keep this post as a favorite!

I just smoked so many Cigarettes that I got tired of it, I eventually cut down and now I find that as long as I am not near someone who is lighting up I won't get the urge to smoke, however I still get the desire to smoke even today that's why I stay away from people who are smoking at all time's. I went a whole year without smoking and I slowly built up the quantities, going every two month's till it turned into every day and when I was doing two a day one after another back to back, now I realize Nicotine reward's don't help I keep that thought with me every time I get the smoking urge.

Download the app QUITNOW its and awesome place where they show you how much your saving, how much your health is improving, how much money your saving, and how many cigs youve not smoked. It has a "Help" area where there are people going through the same thing you are that can help you get through cravings and such..You should check it out.. You also have to have the will to quit and fight hard. I was a 11 year smoker and its been 90 days since I've quit and I never felt better.. But i got lots of help from the QUITNOW app. They also have an FB page

using gum every time you want to smoke is a good way, also you actually get rid of nicotine addiction after 2-3 days, its the motion of smoking that your body wants to keep doing so if you find another hobby to do with your hands after those few days it can help you from going back to smoking. Also if your habit is fueled by stress you'll want to find a new release like talking to someone about your problems other wise you might get into other bad habits.

All the answers above are great. Two other suggestions would be to enroll into a program with other smokers who want to quit, or buy a dog- I'm absolutely serious, a dog can help you get through the stress of trying to quit smoking(however, do not do this if you don't plan to keep it, or if you can't spend the time to keep it happy). The best of luck to you.

I did this 5 years ago. Here's what I did:
day 1- count how many i smoke- i got 38. I thought "no way can I quit this habit, so the next day..day 2 I refrained from smoking the ones I wasted anyway. - the one i took 2 puffs off of b4 work, the ones i burnt in the ashtray while i was on my computer, the ones i lit that i didn't really want. Now my # was smaller- 18. Then i realized I can quit 18.
I smoked 18 the next day, and further analyzed which ones I really didn't need. I kept reducing the number I smoked per day, vowing that once I reduced, I would never increase the number of cigs per day.
day 3- one day before quit day- I kept reducing the cigs per day number, sometimes staying at one amount, until i felt comfortable with reducing the #. I bought nicotine gum, and had it ready for quit day. I called my Dr with any questions. he said once i quit, use more gum if needed, but don't light up. he also told me that, at 3 cigs per day now, that my urges were cognitive, not physical.
I smoked later in the day. This deleted the need to smoke 1st thing in the AM.
On quit day, I used air fragrance (spray air, instead of blowing smoke) , I used infused toothpicks, and gum.
.

The best off all is the Allan Carr method. I have already 2 years since I quit and I was a real smoker (20 years, 40 pieces by day). Good luck!
