Do gerbils eat hay?

Do they need it or is it good for them to eat?

Gerbils eat hay among other grasses. Gerbils are omnivores and they eat grubs, insects, grain and windblown seeds in their natural habitat. The gerbil subfamily consists of over 100 species of Indian, African, and Asian rodents.
