Does anyone know how to catch a mouse without hurting it?

okay so i live out in the woods and having creatures around our house is pretty normal, but i just watched an extremely fat mouse run across my room. I know it doesnt live in here because i just moved all of the furniture and such to clean and there were no signs of a mouse, but i need way to catch it so i can release it outside without harm, does anyone know how i can do that? i also have cats so it needs to be sly cuz my cats are useless hunters.

What you are looking for is a "Have A Heart" Trap. You can set it with some peanut butter inside and when he goes into it, the trap door will shut. He'll just hang out in there until you wake up and when you're ready you can bring him outside and release him.

I'm guessing you pick it up with your hands. I don't know from experience though.

This is if u have found it; get a container and put it over it. Then get the lid and slide it under so it hops on the lid. Then close the container and then open it outside so i can run away

Glue traps are harmful, the mouse stays on it. Permanently.

erm isnt it pretty simple? get a healthy dairy product and just lure it out then once its following u outside but personally i would make a big garden to let them get lured into so its one-way (get someone to open door for u) cause letting it out in the woods practically killing it (snakes, predators etc.) so that way u dont youre not letting it give your house the plague, u dont have to suffocate it in a small cage and u can practically keep it as a pet

Buy a small "have a heart" trap. The design is a cage with a door that closes behind it. Food is put on a small plate or platform in the center of the cage. When the mouse steps on it the door closes behind it. Mice are very smart so you will probably get only one shot at it unless the mouse is very hungry.

well, we use live traps. They are tiny and the mouse can breathe in it. (NEVER EVER USE CHEESE!!!! THEY WONT EVEN GO NEAR IT!!!!!!!) we put peanut butter in it and we get every mouse. These traps are harmless to the people and animal. (dont use your hands you WILL get bit) and mice are really smart. glue traps will get you hurt, use a have a heart trap. dont pick it up by the tail, it will be very able to lose it's tail and you WILL get bitten.

It may be up there in a prior answer, but when I faced this I went to a good hardware store and bought a "benign mousetrap", intended for that purpose. You put in a piece of strong smelling cheese, sit back til he or she goes in and the door drops down on the wire cage, You then carry it
to a grassy area AWAY from your bldg. (so mousey doesn't head right back into your bldg.) and release it. PS to DonaldMehl: Why not? Why torture a helpless creature? (No reply, please.)

if it is fat it is probably about to give birth to 8 new baby mice that like to chew holes in things including your house wiring and this can cause fires and cost you house. if you send it outside it will be back.

Here's something I've done before.
1.Prop up a box with a stick
2.Tie a rope to the stick
3.Use a cracker or something as bait
4.Pull the rope when the mouse climbs under the box.
It does take some waiting, but it is more likely to work than setting up one of those other traps.By this I mean that mice are getting smarter. If you use one of those traps that are similar to this that you don't have to watch, it is likely that the mice are going to get the bait without being caught.

When you see it, you could just put a bowl or basket over it, or you could use one of these traps http://www.petacatalog.com/products/Humane_Smart_Mousetrap-117-25.html

I have used two methods that are very helpful. As stated by other people, you can get inexpensive humane traps at Home Depot, etc. I have put peanuts in mine to tempt the mice in. These traps do a great job catching the mice, which you can then let loose outside. I've also had luck with spreading peanut butter on some wax paper. Then balance the wax paper on top of a kitchen size waste basket. Place the waste basket where the mouse can climb on top of the wax paper-like next to a shelf, chair, etc. The mouse will fall into the waste basket when it tries to get to the peanut butter; then you can take it outside and let it loose. Just make sure the waste basket is empty and that it is fairly deep. Mice can jump pretty high! Good luck!

You don't use a cat, that's for sure : )

Probably just pick it up with your hands or make a trap with cheese or some food as bait. (not the kind you buy at the store)

I've had domestic mice and wild mice as pets. I also have the "have a heart" trap. It never worked for me when it came to wild mice, just domestic ones. lol. When my domestic ones get loose it gets them within a day. However, I have never caught a wild mouse this way. They are too smart, and since they keep along their little mouse highways, you'd pretty much have to put the trap right next to their home to get them.

As to picking them up by their tail, I've done it, and it was only because I'm very fast, and you will get bitten. And it hurts and you can get an infection. Its the only way I've ever gotten wild mice out of my house however without a kill method. They are actually very intelligent animals.

Thats not to dishearten you, try all the methods you can to get them out humanly, especially a fat little guy like him, just remember mice multiply quickly and your best with killing one guy, than having to kill ten guys. From personal experience, and I am a lover of animals, this is my advice.

Use a live trap...we used them and they work! U can buy them several places, we bought a couple at Home Depo. Check daily the trap daily with a flashlight is best because they will hide under the little trap door they came into the trap but cannot leave. Take the whole trap outside and open, they will jump out. We found they really go for a clump of Parmesan cheese, must smell very inviting because we had good results. Be patient they will come.
And good for u for not wanting to kill them either.

Make it a little house outside with some good amount of cheese & water, a little bed made out of I dunno a little piece of clothing? and it has to be inside of a cardboard box (without the flaps shut) and then get gloves on, put him in it, and put him in the woods somewhere. And just for fun, you should name the mouse! Like, Cheezy or something for fun! :D hope u catch that silly lil' mouse!

You have to follow these easy steps, and you'll have that mouse in no time!

1. Take a piece of duct tape (preferably colorful)
2. Lick the duct tape
3. Place it sticky-side-down on the floor.
4. Open a window
5. Open a window on your laptop
6. Open this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dO2YKjBz9lc&feature=related
7. Sit back, and enjoy!
