Since you know that the CDs cost \$7 more, subtract that from the \$38, which leaves \$31. Now divide that by 2 (1 half for the movies the other half for the CDs ) \$15.50 The movie was \$15.50, CDs \$22.50 to check your answer add 22.50+15.50= 38

Report as
No it says on there that the CDs cost \$38 and the movie cost \$7 less than that which means the CDs cost \$38 and the movie costs \$31
Report as
Now it says "carlos spent \$38.00 on CDs and a movie." That is the first sentence.
Report as

a+b=\$38 a+(a-\$7)=\$38 2a=\$45 a= \$22.50 b=\$15.50
a-\$7=b A =MOVIES B =cd
