How do you figure out |2y+5|-2=7?

Is the 'y' in place of x? I haven't seen this problem before and I need help solving it. Can anyone post a link showing an example of the problem/how to solve it or show me how to solve it?

2y+5=9 and -(2y+5)=9

Both answers will work for y in this absolute value equation

The equation |2y+5|-2=7 is an absolute value equation. To solve it, first add 2 to both sides; |2y+5|-2+2=7+2. Then, put the equation in brackets, create two separate equations and get the two values of y; (2y+5)=9, -(2y+5)=9. Therefore, the two values of y are y=2 and y=-7.

|2y+5|=9. The only two numbers with absolute value of 9 are... 9 and -9. So the inside can be 9 or -9 That means 2y+5=9. or 2y+5=-9. Now solve those to see what y values will give you the 9 or -9.
