Cost of the item multiplied by 1 + the tax rate.

Item cost: 12.95

Tax rate: 8%, or .08 in decimal

12.95 x 1.08=

the answer to your question is $13.99 the tax is $1.04 and I added it to the original amount....

when u need to do this again, take the amount of money and multiply it by the tax. but u need to change the % to a "real" number first. in percents, move the period two places to the left. for instance, 12% is just like saying $12.00 so there is a period afger the 12 because it is a whole number....move that period two places to the left and you get .12 .12 = 12%
