I have been dating my gf over 2 yrs, she is 17 and im 19. I dont talk to her dad a ton but we get along. How do i ask him if i can marry her

Report as

Zach, in all seriousness, DO NOT DO THIS, at least not yet. I can totally appreciate the fact that you two have been together for over two years and could be completely head over heels in love and might spend the rest of your lives together. However, her father just might blow a gasket when you ask him this right now. I mean have you thought about all the things that getting married entails? Also, the world is a cruel place to people that don't go to college and have some sort of education to help them in their future endeavors, and I'm not sure how getting married right now would affect the educational aspect. I'm only pointing out things for you to ponder. Good luck with your decision :)

To ask your girlfriend's dad if you can marry her, walk to him and tell him how his daughter is of importance to you. This may be within his home or any public joint that is within your comfortable range. Ensure that you are smart or that you look presentable.

Wait until your girlfriend is 18. Then, when you speak to her dad, let him know how much you love and respect her. And that you will encourage and support her to continue her education.

I think that maybe telling her dad how much you love and respect her and that your intentions are serious might be a good start.... But he needs to know that you are trustworthy and will be successful at providing for her so the above mention education is a really big deal. Marriage can wait.

Maybe tell him of your future plans to marry his daughter after you have a secure job and she has finished with her education and found good employment, it takes two wages these days to make ends meet. If you get a bad start, you'll struggle for years. Don't be in such a rush, she will still love you in four years, if she does't, see what you've saved yourself from?

Yeah NAFTA I am too, guess I just got my butt burned too may times by crazed posters, too tired for that crap to night. But I totally agree, sometimes it takes being harsh to get it through. Young ones, they just don't listen, their in love!!!! Blah blah blah
Report as
HA!!! Love the Blah blah blah!!! Experience through these types of things never seems to be good enough for people, they always have to find out for themselves, as though they have found the loophole or something.
Report as
I hear ya, thank goodness I didn't experience this with my daughters, they used their head and went to school. Both have great jobs!!!

19 is too young to get married, and 2 years is also not long enough to know you can dedicate your entire life to her. Do NOT do it.

You don't (yet). Wait until your girlfriend graduates high school and you both have decent jobs that you can support yourselves. 19 and 17 is too young. In the mean time you can get closer with her father. When the time is right don't just tell him how much you love her tell him how you plan on supporting his daughter for the rest of your lives.
