Can a collection agency take money from money bank account?

I recently had surgery done without any medical coverage, the main hospital bill was taken care of but there were a few other bills like from the anistisiologist and stuff that are apperently seperate. Anyway they've been sending me bills for a little over a month and now I'm starting to see collection agencies sending letters. I just want to know how far they can go in getting money from me, can they actually go into my checking/ savings account without me?

They have to get a court judgment against you first. Then if they win a judgement against you they can try to garnishee your wages or clear out your bank account. The only way they can do that is they must know where you work to go after your wages or have your actual bank account numbers to take it from there. Long process I suggest you just call them and make a payment arrangement is some type to protect your credit

thanks for the info, yea I'd like to try and get it to the point where I can just make small monthly payments. I'm hoping that since they're medical bills and not credit card bills they'd go easier on badicly the only way they could get my bank account info would be to get a court order against me forcing the bank to give them my bank info and in that case I'm sure I'd be notified way before that happened, right?
