Is my teacher right to do this to me?

I turned in a packet of work a month ago. we got progress reports today and I had a 75. ive been making a and b all semester. I asked if I had any work missing and she said yeah the packet from last month. I told her I turned it in and after the class left she told how I just wasnt turning in my work and it's my fault! she looking at me evilly. I'm standing there almost in tears thinking what is she talking about?! she gave me another packet to redo my work and I finished it in the next class without even using a book. I just wanna know how she gone tell me I didn't do my work when I was capable of memorizing all the answers like that. I turned in my work! I don't like that she fussed at me over something that was her own fault. she lost my work and fussed at me about it. is that right?

Elise, I too want to commend you on your behavior in this unfortunate situation. I disagree TOTALLY with the people who are saying you should confront the teacher, make a scene, go to the administrator, etc. That would have only made a bad situation worse. Have you ever lost anything? Remember that teachers are human too. Since you had no proof of turning it in, or even if you did, there really was no option but for you to do it again. Find some joy in knowing that you will always remember the info in the packet and that may benefit you someday in the future.

I hope your parents are extremely proud of you. They should be!!!!

I think that what she did is wrong but there is nothing you can do about it. Just try and maintain that teacher to student relationship and if she asks you to redo any work, do it without any attitude.

That's what my mom told me. I just told her thank you for my second chance and left in tears.

That's sad, but it was the right thing to do. I"m impressed by your maturity. :)

That was wrong. But i guess you can just hope it doesn't happen again..
(Personally, I would be making a HUGE issue over not-graded work I already turned in. That's work that SHE lost, and it's effecting you, not her.)

Yeah, but it is better not to make enemies out of teachers, they can make life really very hard for you.
Report as
Not really. Just as long as you do your work, (while not getting in trouble) you should be fine.
Report as
You mustn'y have had any teachers that actually disliked you. They may not change your grade based on it, but i can assure you that they make lessons painful. I usded to love Japanese, then the teacher decided she didn't like me, and I dread every lesson.
Report as
Hmm? Well what else can they do besides yelling and extra work to make a class miserable..?

Sh*t I would have started yelling at that teacher and no she should take blame for what she did since she lost it but then again all teachers do that.
so happy I don't have to deal with teachers BS anymore :D

In life, like anything else in life, you can only play the cards you are dealt! Complaining about the situation won't help,do the best you can and move on,I know that's not the answer you wanted, but that's the way things go in life,or school, or anything else that crosses your path,,do the best and move on! I hope this helped, even just a teeny little bit,if it's not any help,I'm sorry it didn't help,I'm just doing the best I can

Based on the context of your question, the teacher seems to be at fault here. It would be wise to involve your parents, and they would be wise to contact school authorities to get to the bottom of it. Under no circumstances would it be advisable for you to confront the teacher. Simply asking why would be an innocent act, but could be construed as an attack by one that has made a mistake, and wishes it to go unnoticed.

Good luck.

Good answer. :) I guess she needs to decide whether it's worth getting her parents involved about, it may just have been a small thing that's easier to just redo than make a big deal about.

Definitely sounds unfair but it's hard to prove at this point. Just make sure the next time work is due, that you turn it in with another student or teacher witnessing it. That way you have someone that can speak up for you.

this happens a lot
what if someone,
one of your class mates,
took your packet
copied it
turned in their
copied packet
then they threw your packet away.?Is this scene possible.? next time make sure your teacher sees you hand in your work. never hand in things with out your teacher there.

Yeah it's possible, but they'd have to plan ahead and the teacher would have to be a bit distracted.

(Also, what is a packet when referring to school work? I'm from Australia and we don't have packets of work here...)

Sounds like u need to keep a log book:date&time I've turned in each assignment from now on...;(...u could also prank her every now&then...lol

A log book would help :) if I ever hand something through the front office i'm always made to fill out a log book with the date and an employee's signature, so that if they lose it or give it in late i'm not marked down for it. If it were a personal log book just saying to the teachers as the handed it in that it's as a precaution might actually make the teachers like you more, and consider you mature and organised :)

No she isn't being reasonable, however you need to take it on the chin and get over it, trust me, making a fuss over it will only make you enemies, and it wont prove or fix anything. I know it's unfair, but such is life i'm afraid. Good luck with the rest of your studies. :)

Not many students are like you. You are a very unique individual. Some teachers are jealous of high achievers and students with more potential than the teacher will ever have in their lifetime. Whenever people wrongly accuse you of something you failed to do but you know they are making a mistake, use this opportunity for a blessing and not curse. Remember that they are preparing you for the real world.

You should communicate more with your teachers, because that's the only way they can be more familiar with you. Teachers alway get students confused with each other. I sometimes go through the whole year and thinking I know the students, my surprise I get them mixed up too. Common mistakes happens all the time.

Yes, I've been aware of that sadly :/

I'm impressed at how mature you are about this but I don't think what she did was right in anyway maybe you should tell the princibal and she might talk to your teacher. But as long as you know that you did the right thing and that you turned in the work then you shouldn't be upset with yourself instead you should be proud :D

I agree with mcx8xu that you should involve your parents. Let them know what happened and ask them to talk to the teacher so that your grade doesn't suffer for "being late" according to her. Don't take this personally and don't get upset at the teacher, just have your parents calmly hold the teacher accountable. I'm sure your parents can vouch for you that you had completed this assignment on time as well. Yes the teacher is human, but she should take responsibility for her actions if she lost the assignment. She should lead by example. Keep up the hard work it will take you far in life and never be intimidated about doing what is right. A quote: "You can never be wrong when you do what is right, but you can never be right when you do what is wrong."

elise. I agree with you. If you are a good student, and suddenly not turning in your work, she should have asked you at that time. Teachers aren't perfect. The next time you hand in an assignment, put it in the teacher's hand or on the desk in front of them. Put your mind at ease and let it go. Unless this teacher is a constant problem, just grit your teeth. It's almost summer and school will be out!

Get evidence. When turning in large assignments for this class make sure that you have some type of physical proof that you have done this assignment. Take pictures of it if you have to! If this happens again then don't confront the teacher but someone higher up. Bring the proof with you and They will make sure you don't have to redo it. If you want something less dramatic you could scan it onto your computer and email it to her if she loses it.
