Do you think a traumatic brain injury such as getting electrocuted, can cause Paranoid Schizophrenia?

Report as

I am in the process of asking the same question myself, I was electrocuted as a toddler, and was later diagnosed as bipolar disorder? If electrocution to a mentally ill brain can help recovery, could a normal brain that is electrocuted incurs mental illness ??? That is the real question, I have other strange symptoms which i am also discussing at the moment.

No. Schizophrenia is a mental illness, not something induced by a brain injury.

Yes it can because schizophrenia is normally caused as a result of a complex interaction between genetic and environmental factors and also abnormalities in brain structure. It is advisable to consult your doctor and you can find out more information here http://www.helpguide.org/mental/schizophrenia_symptom.htm.

Just to be clear, I'm not the one with the traumatic brain injury and as a result think I have Schizophrenia lol. But your answer is correct :) I'm doing research for my Psyc class and it was to see how much the public knows about mental issues. Thanks for the link :)

yes, TBI survivors suffer from many mental problems due to the "short circuiting of the electric signals in the brain.
