Can a failed timing belt on a 2006 suzuki forenza be serviced (ie replaced) independently? i was told the motor had to be replaced

Yes you can change the timing belt now if the timing belt ripped and completely fell off it might of messed with your engine valves im sure thats what they ment when they told you about the engine. If belt is messed up but still on there you can replace it and be good. If it fell off or ripped you might need to inspect your valves and your engine might be out of cranking sync.

When a timing belt fails during a driving session the valvetrain can crash. Thus destroying internal parts. It is possible that you may need a new engine.

You should be able to change the timing belt but you should also change the water pump while your at it. I never heard about putting a motor cause the timing belt broke.

On the 06 Forenza if your timing belt fails while engine is running your engine is dead 06 forenza has ainterference engine. That means that if the timing belt breaks the engine will suffer severe internal damage and will likely have to be replaced
