My dog hurt her neck bad today, and now she is acting like she doesnt evan know her own name. What do i do?

Earlier today my daughter was letting our dog Chloe out and she got excited and my daughter went to try to set her down and she jumped out of her arms and landing on her neck. She started having spasms and it literally looked like she had broke her neck. Well i thought she was going to die and i looked at her and she was trying to move her head forward. She did about 5 times until her head was completely forward. She was panting at first like she couldnt breath but when she got her neck straightened out her breathing was alot better. We took her to a vet that she wasnt familiar with because we couldnt get ahold of hers and they just said that she sprang her neck and they talked about putting her down! We dont want that! She is another one of our kids!! Well needless to say they gave her a shot and sent us home and said they would call! go figure!! Well when we got home she started whimpering and was trying to move her back legs and finally she was able to move around. Her tongue has been hanging out of her mouth since all this happened and the vet said she would be ok and that it would take her a min to get coherent again. and she will not respond to her name. wat do i do??

First of all find a cozy spot that you can lay her down, gently massage her neck warm compress and dogs can take baby aspirin. I A dogs brain is like a baby there could be a bleed in the brain which the pressure could cause unresponsiveness to name, her tongue will hang out When she was dropped did she have a seizure? I ask because my little dog was the victim of the accident the vet drilled a tiny hole in her skull and she is fine. I will say a little prayer Also the vet should of immobilized her neck with a soft collar call another vet. You can make a collar if the vet won't give you one

yes she did have a seizure! And i tried to explain to the vet everything that happened about 4 times but it was like she just wanted to get us out of there. Her vet was gone today so we had to go to another one. I also did ask about a collar for her neck or something to make it to where she wasnt straining it or anything and she said that they didnt make stuff like that for dogs???!! I was very disappointed. anyway she is now trying to crawl around with her front legs, kinda like she doesnt have any feeling in her back legs. but at the vets office she could move her legs and after we were home awhile she got up and took a few steps on all 4 legs. Thank you for your post it helped!

Glad to hear she got up on all 4 legs! If you think a collar would help just use an ace bandage. Please keep us posted.

He should of given her Phenobarbital for about a week
Make you own collar get Velcro get a sock Fill it with the old kind Kotex tighten with the Velcro she will get used to it. Exercise her leg gently bending and massaging if she won't drink get a eye dropper and drop in side of mouth. She has another seizur call the vet but while she is having it she won't swallow her tongue if you get a Butter knife wrap end with tape and hold tongue still so she won't bite it hold her while she is having a seizure now you are caring for not a dog but your little one Most important don't crowd her and talk sweet to her or in a I will also tell everyone I have 2 medium old dogs and I massage them couple times day they even walk my treadmill at turtle speed for 1 min of exercise

Did u not read the description? Lmfao dumbass

Did you not read my response properly? No need for cussing. A second opinion by a trained vet is better than just our opinion.

Will be doing that first thing in the morning. Thank you

You have a lot of great advice here. I'm just going to add that alternating 20 min of ice (to reduce swelling), rest for 30 min, then 20 min of heat (to help blood flow to aid healing), with 30 min of rest, then repeat, can help your dog's neck as well. I've had a lot of neck issues myself, which have required surgery, & the heat & ice treatments do a lot to help it feel better. Good luck, I hope your 4-legged baby feels better!

I know you said you couldn't contact your vet. You obviously care a great deal for Chloe. Does your vet have an after-hours answering service? Is there a chance he/she has calls forwarded to their home phone for emergencies? I'd keep her quiet and as still as possible, and sit up with her tonight. Keep trying to reach your vet. Maybe they check their answering machine at certain times in the evenings. Good luck!

I just had that happen to my dog last night. I don't think it is broken but his neck is very sore. He is not himself..... He's drowsy and he don't want to play and when I massage his neck he wines and starts crying. He can't jump off anything and I can't really find anything to help my baby boy..... Can somebody help?
