Do people actually take the advice given on here when they need it? I just want to know if I'm wasting my time on here.

You have to use your head my friend. Regardless of what people say, it's your job to help yourself. It doesn't hurt to get more than one reasonable opinion and talk about them with someone whose judgment you respect.
