Freckles are usually the body's way of telling you that you've had a bit too much sun. They are due to an increase in the amount of melanin, the dark pigment that is responsible for our color or complexion. See www.freckles.org/ for more on this.
Freckles are skin cells with darker pigmentation causing them to stand out more against the majority of your lighter skin cells. Each cell is encoded with DNA so it will replicate itself over and over until you die. You cannot get rid of them. You can however use makeup to cover them. A certain actress (Lohan) has many freckles but you never see them in "glamor" type photos. Plus....celebrate what you have. Freckles can be quite appealing.
I agree with dunczn that freckles do become more prominent after being in the sun, I do not agree that cocoa butter can fade them. A sun block will reduce the effect of the sun by preventing some of the UV rays from reaching the skin where the melanin is located. Shading the area where the freckles are located will keep them from being prominent. I agree that freckles can be quite appealing, but we usually hate the characteristics we're born with despite being appealing to others. I'm afraid you will just have to learn to live with them.
