You need to check the energy cord and the thermostat of the toaster. Toasters will not likely work due to the fact that the electrical power cord might have been loosened its connection to the toaster or it is not emitting the appropriate volume of heat. You can also seek help from a professional electrical technician.
Try pressing the little square red & black safety breaker buttons on the wall outlet plate the toaster is plugged into. (aka the GFCI buttons, as gatorblu says.) My toaster often trips them, shutting off power to the toaster. (Toaster lever will not stay down to toast bread & appears broken.)
I could barely find where to suggest anything.. there is a lot of empty space above! BIG HUGE IMPORTANT FACT: DO NOT Leave Your Kitchen when doing this procedure! DO NOT Talk on your PHONE! DO NOT Do Anything but make TOAST! When attempting this at home or anywhere else. All eyes on bread at all Times! I do the oven trick! I have a meek and weak toaster which I don't use anymore. I know and hear your frustration. Take your rack in the oven and put it on the top closest to the top coils. Turn your oven on BROIL! Turn the temp. to 500 so it will BROIL! Watch it! When it starts to "turn to toast," it'll toast quickly! Grab an oven mitt, pull the rack out, flip the toast, the other side toasts even faster! Have the butter already room temp. Pull out, TURN OFF THE OVEN and temp. to OFF! Butter both. Jam on one, butter only on the other, grab a multi vitamin and some juice of your choice, and your good to go. This weekend, go to Target, and invest $ 27.95 on a new toaster! You've inspired me! That's what I'm going to do! Have a great weekend with happy toast! :)
