What is fashionably late?

I was wondering I know it is a little late but why and is it like 2 mins or like 20?

The term "fashionably late" is used to refer to a person arriving about 5 to 10 minutes late for a meeting or a function to give the impression that they are busy or popular. Depending on the type/style of the event, fashionably late can also range from 5 minutes to 45 minutes.

if a person shows up an hour or more late, it's no longer "fashionable " it's just plain rude.

"Fashionably late" is whenever someone arrives in such a way that everyone notices. There are some functions for which it's inappropriate to be late, fashionably or otherwise: weddings, funerals, business meetings, job interviews. And if I'm hosting a dinner party and someone arrives 30 minutes late, thereby holding up the meal for everyone? That's not fashionable, it's just rude.

another word for rude and inconsiderate! unless, as in my and my children's case, you had a car wreck. and i still got them to their music performance with Mick Gillette of Tower of Power 5 minuets before stage call. got knocked off the road by a boulder in a heavy down pour, spun the wrong way, headed for the cliff over the river, spun the other way, threw it into a slide to avoid going over and ended up facing the wrong way, uphill on the right side of the road--out of traffic. came to a stop while "hot-rod Lincoln" was playing with oldest saying "man what a ride". true event. the insurance agent didn't believe it but the trucker who saw us "go" verified it.set all of your clocks 15 minutes early and live by that and you'll never be the fashionable one!

it sure was scary while it was happening, though. my son was in the back yelling " hold on, hold on" i heard glass breaking and thought the windows were shattering on my kids but it turned out to be my grandmas antique cake plates bouncing up and down in the box. my daughter was right: man what a ride! we had driven that same stretch of road at least 100 times back and forth to their jazz band and never an incident. since that wreck i am now called the Disney killer. i've hit bambi, thumper and flower! wish i had a helicopter instead. then i would only have to worry about birds! have a great day.

Its also away for people to get noticed, if you arrive a little late, then chances are, your gonna get noticed, with the addition of it seeming like you had better things to do.

as someone who is disabled i have to say we aren't at all fashionable but sometimes we can't help being late. I got use to people ignoring me in the 8th grade so if you notice me great but if you don't my world will carry on. There are too many things that DO come up and get in the way that are beyond our control. My family doesn't understand that. Society doesn't understand that and obviously you judgmental people don't either. We can't ALL be that power mom to get their kids there 5min early to who was it cialater Mick Gillette? Sounds like he has a razor company hahaha i amuse myself. No I have no idea who that is nor do i care what Tower of Power is. It sounds like a character on one of these kid's video games, movie or

It sounds like a character on one of these kid's video games, movie or cartoon personality i.e. NOT IMPORTANT TO MY LIFE is what i'm saying. l do applaud you for your driving skills and knowing how to drive in the rain. It just wasn't your time yet or your kids. IMHO you should be grateful for your lives not gloating. My daddy believed in the 15 min early rule too and just like I told him you can't always get there that early. So when someone is a little late to your function let's all try to be a little more forgiving instead of stuck on ourselves and stressing out over that clock. If it was an every time thing that would be different but every once in awhile cut these people some slack. Especially if it's a stranger showing up to a concert and you don't know them. You just never know when they might have had a wreck too. In which case they DID have something better to do because I can assure you they would much rather have been on time for the concert!

It's a valid excuse.. it takes time to get all beautified, sometimes there are kinks, like a hole in your panty hose, or you broke a heel, anything can go wrong so fashionably late means it take some people more time to get ready, go, and arrive.....

It's kind of like when someone who's rich, popular, gorgeous, famous, etc. comes late to something (about 30 mins probably) and so yeah... So if you've seen Iron Man 1 or 2, he has lots of swag and is like self-engaged always, right? He's smart-alicky, and so to him, it doesn't matter when he comes because he's so great. :D (which of course, HE IS. Sooo hot!!!)

An excuse by a person who doesn't like to admit she is disrupting meetings.

In France, as I understand it, the hostess expects people to be up to 15 minutes late - its considered courteous - the 15 minutes allows the hostess to definitely be on time. When I host a dinner, I hope folks arrive on time and definitely within the quarter hour - I've planned for an hour at most for chitchat then dinner will be ready.

Being "fashionably late" is really rude and stupid. People need to just attend parties without making the person wait because they want to be "fashionably late."
