Ive had many dogs and worked with them for years. Any dog will be a good guard dog if trained right. I had a German Shepard for 14 years.. GREAT DOG!! but sheds ALOT.. I would do your research before getting one, all dogs have different needs such as excersise ,temperment, sheding ect..I currently have an old english bulldog and shes a great watch dog but sheds awful, and cant handle the heat so we have a hard time taking her out with us. Im not a "little" dog person but they do make good watch dogs also. more of an "alarm" but definetly think of ALL your do's and dont's before choosing a breed, and if you have young children that is a very big consideration because some breeds are not favorable around little ones. Hope this helps. oh yea i also have a pitbull, great dog but alot of liability.
Pitbull do not get a rednose or camelot those breeds have anger problems but get a bluenose i have one with kids and there the perfect dog easy to train family friendly espiccially around kids and they have a kind called whatchdog and its there bloodline one of the best dogs iv ever had.

Don't laugh, okay? - Chihuahua! Seriously. While big dogs look menacing, they generally bark very slowly. Chihuahuas, on the other hand, bark extremely fast and loud. They are more likely to wake up the neighborhood than a German Shepard, golden retriever, or other medium to large dogs are.
Well if it were going to sleep outside then i would get a really big dog that always barks that would scare burglars from the house before they even get in. If you wanted it to sleep inside i would get a chihuahua as they would probably bark at anything. You could also get a shelter dog as they are generally more loyal.
a really good guard dog would be a German Shepard. the one thing you need to be careful about with guard dogs is that if they see for example you and your friend playing rough, he might think that your friend is trying to hurt you and become a little violent. he wont seriously hurt your friend though. also when you bring a new friend into the house make sure that the dog is aware that it is a friend. other than that they are amazing dogs. i have one and he is so nice to everybody. also if you want them to be really good guard dogs then it is better to buy them from people who let them run free. my cousin got one from a few dog breeders that he got his previous dogs from. before you get any type of dog make sure you do some research about them.
