Actually if you have good hands and some speed you would be a much better tight end. Jason Witten of the Dallas Cowboys was about your size at that age. Being a defensive end would require you to bulk up to about 260 by the time you are a senior.

Yeah every body tells me to play both tight end and d end but I can't catch and I prefer being on defense but thanks for the recommendation.

Given your height and weight, I think that you will make a good defense. To become better, ensure that you practice a lot and engage yourself in activities like weight lifting to make you stronger and build body muscles.

Without seeing you practice or in a game situation my first thoughts are no. You will not make a good DE. You are underweight and a little too short. That being said you may have a quickness or another skill that makes up for your lack of size. I encourage you to try out and the coaches will know where to put you if they feel you should keep that position or try another

I played pop Warner last year and I was bigger then 90% of the defensive ends on the other teams one coach said I was to tall and I should be a o line man.

That guy was totaly wrong. If your quarterback is not at least 6'3" then your size will block his view of the passing lanes. Better to crush a quarterback than to keep geeting hit in the back by a running back, or a bad throw to the head. Strong safety, or outside linebacker might be better options, if you can get some speed and are commited to defense.

Yeah I'm only 14 isn't the average size for an nfl de like 6'3 I have plenty of time to grow.

Defensive and offensive linemen keep getting bigger, and stronger, and seem to suffer alot of ankle and knee injuries. Strong safety, or outside linbacker would keep you out of the trenches more, and give you a chance to deliver some crushing blows to the man with the ball, by you roaming more. The bad part is those type defensive guys suffer more head and neck type injuries. Always play where the coach wants you. That way your on the field and gaining experience. you may find a spot that is different than what you want now that can be even more rewarding. Work hard . Play fair. and alway, always be ateam player. Good luck.
