When I lived in an apartment I had to use window a/c's for the summer and I distinctly remember setting my bedroom ceiling fan in the upward position since heat rises I wanted to keep the cool air circulating...I could be wrong since most ppl on here seem to say down..best bet is to check out the website given...stay cool! :-)

I think it's up for summer and down for winter but am not sure. You should check your manual. You can go to http://housewares.about.com/od/coolingheating/f/ceilfanrotation.htm for instructions on how your fan blades should be rotating during summer and during winter. I hope that helps.

You want it blowing up (toward ceil) in winter, to circulate the heat that has risen back down properly (on low).

In the summer, it should be pushing the air down, counterclockwise. In the winter, it should be pushing it up, clockwise. But if you have high ceilings,2 stories, everything is opposite.
