I had a soccer friend who tore her ACL during the season and had knee surgery. She also ran CC in the fall and it killed her that she was not able to do anything because of her injury. Against the doctors and my advice she ditched the crutches 3 weeks after surgery and began conditioning. I know she did it but it doesn't go without risk. Every time she put unnecessary stress on her knee could've been the day she ended up back in the hospital, and I wouldn't wish that for anyone so to be safe stay on those crutches for a while. Your body will heal itself but on it's own time. Try walking with the leg that underwent surgery every once in a while. The muscles in that leg are going to shrink regardless since you shouldn't be using that leg at all but you being a dancer need leg muscle so try walking. Don't overdue it though! Happy healing!!

When the doctor says 4-6 weeks, it is best to listen to their advice. This is because they estimate that by the time this is over, you will have healed. What you are trying to do isn't a good idea because you might end up back in crutches for longer.
