Children, particularly active growing children, need carbohydrates. Most foods enjoyed have carbohydrates needed for a healthy diet. Milk, cheese, bread, crackers, vegetables and fruits are included. The key is to eat more complex carbohydrates instead of simple carbohydrates such as candy or soft drinks. Simple carbs can drive up your blood sugar levels. In that event, change in diet eliminating simple carbs can ultimately reduce sugar levels back to normal.
The cravings for bread and carbs might not necessarily indicate the existence of diabetic symptoms in a child. However, this can be a major sign of depression whereby the child is suffering from stress hence feeds more on these carbs.
