What could be making this sound in my car? See details.
I know I need to replace my shocks, because I can feel every bump in the road, but when I hit a bump, a sound can be heard (and felt, like something is loose and moving), like a reverberating clanging noise. Things I've thought of are the shocks themselves, the swing bar, the rubber washers between the motor and chassis need replaced (worn down, so the motor is bouncing on the chassis), the plate under the cadillac converter being loose, or some belt or fan being loose. Anything I haven't thought of? I'm taking it to the mechanic and want to know what all the possibilities are so I'm not surprised. I'd say I'm slightly above average on car knowledge for your average woman, so I know I'm not going to be railroaded by a mechanic, but just want to know if there's something I haven't thought of. BTW, if it helps, 2003 Pontiac Vibe, FWD, 1.6 liter engine with sport suspension.
